Mrs. CarolAnn Premonics - Music K-8

I am originally from Buffalo, New York (go Bills and Sabres!)  and I graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with BFA’s and MFA’s in both education and performance. I have been a music educator for 34 plus years. I am a strong supporter of music in schools to enhance the “whole” child.
I sing with the Las Vegas Master Singers. We also perform with the Las Vegas Philharmonic at the beautiful Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

I am thrilled to be here at SHPS and in a new Music room!  We are surrounded by music in every aspect of our lives and my job is to mold students into educated appreciators of music, whether they are going to be consumers or performers. I love my job!

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Classroom Notes

Music for Kindergarten and First grade includes singing, dancing, games, books, movement and use of un-pitched classroom instruments (triangle, hand drums, woodblocks, etc..). We are working on large and small loco-motor movement to instill steady beat. They also receive their first introduction to rhythmic reading readiness.

Second and Third grades do all of the above plus learning the proper playing technique of the Orff-Schulwerk barred instruments. We continue with learning to read simple rhythm patterns and simple tonal patterns.

Fourth grade is their introduction to reading simple music and playing the recorder. With the “Be a Recorder Star” program that we use, they have access to a digital version of the book. With using the digital version, it enables them to be in control of the tempos with their practicing and accompaniments!

Fifth grade will continue with playing the recorders periodically. Adding them to simple Orff arrangements that will include singing and movement.

Sixth, Seventh and Eighth grades includes units such as; World Music Drumming, Classroom Guitar, Music History and continuing with Orff arrangements.
