Provide a safe, supportive learning environment Focus on strengths and learning styles of each individual child Promote confidence and self-esteem through diverse opportunities for success Facilitate a balance between a traditional and progressive education From the Head of School Kacey Chong Dear Parent, Since 2003, Southern Highlands Preparatory School in Las Vegas has been known for its excellence in preschool through eighth grade education. Parents have complimented us on our passionate and dedicated teachers, our standards-based curriculum, and our understanding of the needs of each child. Our curriculum was designed by a team of highly skilled experts in curriculum design, instruction, and assessment. Links to Learning, our preschool curriculum for children ages 2 to 5 years, takes advantage of a child’s readiness to learn with activities that are fun, challenging, and engaging. Our elementary and middle school programs provide opportunities for students to master basic skills, problem solve, make positive decisions, and practice higher-level thinking. Teachers personalize lessons to ensure that they are stimulating and challenging for each student. We believe that beyond the core subjects, classes in art, music, technology, Spanish, and physical education are essential to educating the whole child. Our curriculum is founded on rich and challenging content that engages students and inspires them to develop a love of learning. We understand however, that students need more than academic knowledge to achieve future success. Field trips are one way to help our students make connections to lessons learned in the classroom. Some places we have visited include Red Rock Canyon, the CSN Planetarium, Valley of Fire, Nevada State Museum, Spring Mountain Ranch, Lion Habitat, Arcadia Earth, and Lake Mead. Our after-school program runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, and includes activities such as sports, dance club, choir, visual arts, and chess. We understand life can be hectic. We are here to accommodate your busy schedule. Please feel free to contact us to schedule a private tour. I look forward to meeting with you, learning about your child’s educational needs, and discussing how we can work together to meet them. In the meantime, visit us on Facebook to see some of the exciting activities going on at our school.
